Q: What inexpensive ingredient should you have on hand at all times in case you need to make a delicious meal in a pinch?
Courtney’s Answer:
That’s a toughie, but it’d definitely have to be a can of Cream of Mushroom Soup. When I’m all out of ideas and new recipes, I fall back on some of my favorite crock-pot classics. For example, you can throw some chicken breasts, a packet of onion soup mix, and a can of Cream of Mushroom into the crock pot on low heat for 4-6 hours and serve with Stove Top dressing or Rice-a-Roni. Voila! You’ve got a tasty meal that only took about 5 minutes to prepare.
Also, if your roast is looking a little dry, you can thin down a can of soup with some milk and use it as a gravy/dipping sauce. It doesn’t get any easier or cheaper than that!
Amanda’s Answer:
There are so many things you should always have on hand in my opinion. A few most important ones would be fresh produce: broccoli, carrots, and onions. No matter what you’re making for dinner that night, add some broccoli or carrots to add a delicious nutritional value. If someone in your family can’t stand vegetables, you can always finely chop or puree them so they aren’t noticeable (this is especially handy if you have kids or a very picky husband). Onions can add a little something to any kind of meat you’re cooking. I’d also recommend always having a couple cans of chicken or vegetable broth in your pantry. It’s great for marinating chicken, or to cook rice in instead of water, for soup, and so much more.
